Kitchen Organizing

Our kitchen only has four shallow drawers.  If I were designing a kitchen, I think I would install more drawer cabinets than cabinets with doors – I think they are extremely useful.  After deciding to clear almost everything from the counters over a year ago, the tiny drawers have been a complete mess of my fun little kitchen gadgets.  I searched around for drawer organizers, deciding that utilizing as much space as possible with individual bins would work better than an all-in-one organizer.  All of the bins I found were only 2″ deep, which might mean gadgets would overflow into neighboring bins.  I finally found the Linus Deep Drawer Organizers at The Container Store.  They are 3-1/8″ deep, just the perfect size for my drawers!

I measured each drawer and all of my gadgets to figure out how many and what size organizers I would need.  I was left with a little space around the edges of course, but that turned into the perfect space for the few utensils I have that are longer than the organizers.

I was so excited to start organizing that I forgot to take a before picture, but here is an old shot of many of my gadgets jumbled together.  I’m sure a few extra items have been added since this picture.

I have also been getting tired of everything teetering on the pantry shelves, so I found some inexpensive baskets at Old Time Pottery that are the same depth as the shelves in our pantry to give everything a little more structure.  I bought all they had but still need a few more to keep the canned foods from tipping off the shelf.

I think Habitual Rearranger fits me well because I am never settled on designs, colors, or placement of items in our home. I drive Bradley crazy sometimes, but I keep figuring out new and better ways of doing things! I am not striving to be profound or an expert on anything in this blog. It is simply a way to keep a record of all of my adventures - home and life - for me to reference and also for my loved ones to follow along. I am a born and raised Georgia girl. I don't think I would enjoy living anywhere except the south. Bradley and I spent six and a half years in our starter home and are now in our forever home, a 1970s traditional two story brick house. I love getting into all kinds of projects around our house, and I try to document all the dirty details here if for no one else than for me.
